Penelope Disick sobs over her mother Kourtney Kardashian’s engagement to Travis Scott.
When Kourtney Kardashian’s daughter learned that her mother was engaged to Travis Barker, she burst into tears.
In October 2021, Kardashian FaceTimed Penelope Disick from her engagement party in Montecito, Calif., to share the joyous news before it became public.
“P, do you want to know what my surprise was? We got engaged!” she told her daughter in footage that aired during the newest episode of “The Kardashians” on Thursday.
Penelope, 9, started crying right away and hung up on her mother.
Reign Kardashian, Kardashian’s 7-year-old son, absorbed the news considerably better than Penelope. The Poosh creator also attempted to contact his 12-year-old son Mason, but he did not answer the phone.
“Penelope took it hard,” Kardashian said in the episode. “I think it’s a big change for her. And even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn’t know what that means, you know? Is that taking me away?”
In addition to not understanding what it means, Kardashian’s children — whom she shares with ex Scott Disick — were not invited to the surprise engagement party, although Barker’s children Landon, 18, and Alabama, 16, were present.
The party’s planner, Kris Jenner, claimed there was no way to arrange moving all the kids from Calabasas, Calif., to Montecito, which is about an hour away.
“I think it’s her decision to break it to her kids the way she wants,” Kris told Kim Kardashian.
She later added, “Listen, for us to have to lie to Scott and get them here under false pretenses would have been really hard for all of us. This is the right thing to do … that’s the way I feel about it.”
Kourtney Kardashian, on the other hand, expressed her regret for not being able to attend the party with her children.
“I think it would have made them feel more included in the decision and part of the surprise,” she said. “I know that my mom made that decision and it probably wasn’t her best.”
The kids were “upset,” Scott confirmed in the episode.
“They didn’t understand why they were watching TikToks of [Barker’s] kids there and they weren’t there,” he told Khloé Kardashian, before quipping, “Hopefully they’re invited to the wedding.”
Scott, on the other hand, claimed to be fine with his ex-engagement girlfriend’s news.
“I always felt like it was my fault for breaking up our family,” he told Khloé. “I always felt this responsibility to be there for her, take care of her and make sure she was all right even though we weren’t together. I just felt that guilt … I feel like a lot has been lifted off me.”
After a year of dating, Barker and Kourtney got engaged on Oct. 17, 2021. The Blink-182 drummer proposed on the beach in Montecito, after recently revealing that he went to Kourtney’s late father’s grave to get permission to marry her.
Fans tried to contact Disick shortly after the news broke to see whether he was okay. At the time, a source told Page Six exclusively that he was “going insane” at the news.
Even Khloé said on last week’s episode of their new Hulu series that Scott, who dated Kardashian for nine years, would have a “hard time” with the engagement.
