Before her debut concert with The Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow “vomitted all day.”
On November 25, 1994, the “Soak Up the Sun” singer was enlisted by Mick Jagger’s rock band for a rendition of “Live with Me” at Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium, and she was so “terrified” of sharing a stage with her idols that she vomited in the days leading up to the show.
The “All I Wanna Do” vocalist had felt like a “outcast” in Los Angeles until being taken under the wing of the legendary band. Concerning “”I was just an outsider on the Howard Stern Show,” she said, “and it was the Stones who kind of snatched me out of [that] and said, ‘Hey, welcome to our scene.'” In any case, that was the scene I’d always wanted to be in. I’ve always had the feeling that I was born too late.”
Reminiscing about her first performance with the band “”I vomited all day,” the 60-year-old remarked of the “Under My Thumb” rockers. I was completely afraid. Bobby Keys, their saxophonist, threw me a bottle of tequila and said, ‘Here’s a little bravery,’ and shuffled me out right before I walked out.”
Sheryl, whose first big gig was as a backup singer on Michael Jackson’s “Bad” tour in 1987 and 1989, was awestruck by headliner Mick and thought the experience unreal.
She remembered, “When I was about six inches from Mick [Jagger’s] face, I know precisely what I was thinking. ‘Oh, this is the guy with the… On that record [‘Sticky Fingers,’] I unzipped.'”
The two have remained in contact over the years, and she recently collaborated on a new cover of “Live With Me” from 1969’s “Let It Bleed” album.
Mick was recruited by Sheryl to play the harp on a Stones song for the soundtrack album to the upcoming “Sheryl” documentary about her life and work, which will be released on Friday, May 6.
‘The’ “”I texted him recently and asked him if he would play harp on [a cover of the Rolling Stones song] ‘Live With Me,'” the vocalist of “First Cut Is the Deepest” remarked. ‘I can’t believe I have his phone number,’ I thought to myself as I texted him.”
