‘Jurassic World Dominion’ earns $18 million at the box office on Thursday.

“Jurassic World Dominion,” the third instalment in Chris Pratt’s revived “Jurassic” trilogy, made $18 million in its first preview showings on 4,150 screens starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday. This weekend, it will be released on 4,676 screens.

“Dominion” is expected to have a T-Rex-sized opening weekend of $125 million or more, however it will be interesting to see how the film does as “Top Gun: Maverick” enters its third week after performing well since its Memorial Day debut.

And a $125 million debut would be behind the $148 million debut of its predecessor, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” which premiered in June 2018. In comparison, “Dominion” outperformed “Fallen Kingdom” in its initial round of screenings, which brought in only $15.3 million. For another example, two weeks prior, “Top Gun: Maverick” generated $19.2 million in its Thursday previews, which began at 3 p.m., and went on to gross $124 million over its three-day opening weekend.

“Dominion,” on the other hand, has the distinct advantage of reuniting the original trio of stars from Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” namely Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern. Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first “Jurassic World” picture after stepping away for the sequel and resurrected the franchise with a $208 million opening, will also directing the new feature. Despite the fact that the film should be critic-proof, “Dominion” only gets a 37 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

“Jurassic World Dominion” follows up four years after the catastrophe of Isla Nublar, in which dinosaurs now coexist with humans all over the world–and hunt them. However, things take a turn for the worst when Pratt’s Owen Grady discovers that one of the raptors has given birth unexpectedly, only to have the baby dinosaur abducted.

“Jurassic World Dominion” is a Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production with a script by Emily Carmichael and Colin Trevorrow based on characters created by Michael Crichton, and a plot by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow.
