On Monday morning, a man was detained in Adelaide after reportedly taking a car with a four-month-old baby in the back seat.
A Honda Jazz was stolen around 7:45 a.m. from in front of a deli on Fourth Avenue in Klemzig, according to SA Police.
At the time, the infant boy was inside the car, and his mother, a 29-year-old lady, was inside the deli.
The mother was "hysterical" and went outside as soon as she saw her car backing out, according to the proprietor of the Fourth Ave Deli, who only wanted to be known as Allan.
"I was expecting her to sprint in front of the car, but she merely took a step back," proprietor of the Fourth Ave Deli, explained.
When a man in a stolen Mazda ute arrived and exchanged cars, the owner, a woman, had just put her child in the back seat.
The car was found by police on Wilkinson Court in Enfield at 10:09am, Superintendent Matt Nairn said.
"Thankfully seated in the rear was the child," he said
Police are not accusing the mother, but they are warning her to be cautious.
Superintendent Nairn said the incident was a "warning" to parents to "be careful," but that the mother was not to fault.
